State Parliament clears way for online casino in Thuringia

The state parliament in Thuringia has cleared the way for online casino games. The necessary amendment to the Thuringian Casino Law was adopted by a majority of deputies in Erfurt on March 17, 2023. Nationwide, the State Treaty on Gambling, adopted on July 1, 2021, regulates the offer of casino games on the Internet. Thuringia wants to use the passage that the state itself offers such games in the market and does not award a concession to private providers.

According to the law, no terrestrial casino is currently operated in Thuringia. With the possibility of offering online casinos in Thuringia, a tamper-free and moderate game offer can be realized, it is said.

With the amended casino law in Thuringia and the state's own concession, licensing procedures, provisions for the protection of young people and players, supervisory regulations and sanction mechanisms could be regulated equally.
