On May 5, the Overwatch League will start the next season after a long break. There are big changes: the pros are playing an early version of Overwatch 2, which is just in the beta phase. Many changes bring a new dynamic to the league.

Overwatch 2: One less player per team

The pros have been training for a long time with an early version of Overwatch 2. Due to many changes, the successor offers a faster gameplay, which should bring more fun to the fans of the Overwatch League.

In turn, Overwatch 2 reduced the number of players in the tank role, which also allowed the teams to reduce their squads. Canadian tank player Daniel "Hadi" Bleinagel was not affected before the cuts and is also under contract with London Spitfire this season.

New mode: "Push" replaces "Attack"

The new game mode "Push" also promises more variety. Here, both teams must capture a robot, which then moves a cargo to the opponent's checkpoints.

Unlike the existing game mode "Escort", there is no static "attacker" or "defender" role in Push. Instead, these change dynamically, depending on which team has the robot on its side at the moment.

For this, the game mode "Control" was abandoned, which led to long and rigid battles, which frustrated amateur players, professionals and the audience alike.

Live Events Return to the Overwatch League 2023

Overwatch announced a live event in Texas for the match between Dallas Fuel and Houston Outlaws for the first matchday, where both teams will compete against each other in front of an audience.

The following June tournament will be held for the western region together with fans in front of an audience at the Esports Stadium Arlington, Texas. "The biggest live event for Overwatch in over 2 years," Dallas wrote on Twitter.

As the first game of the new season of the Overwatch League 2022, New York Excelsior will host the Los Angeles Gladiators team. Following this, Canadian emir "Kaan" Okumus and his team Paris Eternal have to prove themselves against San Francisco Shock.
