VfB Stuttgart is returning to e-sports as announced. The Swabians will send a team to the next season in the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) of the German Football League (DFL) as well as in other national and international competitions in the field of football simulation, as they announced on Wednesday. In the future, the commitment should be expanded.
"From the 2023/24 season, participation in the VBL is set as the third competitive brand of the DFL for all Bundesliga clubs. However, we do not want to approach this competition half-heartedly as a compulsory exercise, but in the spirit of VfB with maximum ambition and good ideas,"said VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle.
For the club, e-sports is "a strategically exciting field with which we can reach young target groups and open up a new business field in the future. This is not intended to displace our core business of football, but to support and strengthen it.»
