Dota 2 developer Valve will replace the canceled winter major with a series of regional final rounds. After the US company had previously cancelled the major without replacement, there was a lot of discontent in the community.
"We quickly realized by listening to our team and the fans that our priorities were wrong and we were not successful in paying attention to the players participating in the DPC," says a blog post from Valve. "That was a big mistake. We are sorry and we are determined to make it right this time.»
As a replacement for the Winter Major, Valve plans to hold a final round of the best four teams for each region. In addition to prize money, the first and second place finishers in these final rounds will also receive DPC points with which they can qualify for the Dota 2 World Cup.
