TSM is the new world champion in Rainbow Six: Siege. The American team with a dominant comeback defeated the Russian team Team Empire in the final of the Six Invitational with a score of 3:1. The SI is considered the World Championship in the e-sports discipline.

"We're just really happy to be here," TSM's Matthew "Achieved" Solomon said after the win. "We qualified for the SI in the open qualifying round. Many did not even think that we would be here." Together with his team, he lifted the SI trophy in the form of a black sledgehammer into the air after the victory.

Final between TSM and Team Empire

Both teams had previously met in the final of the winner's group, with TSM losing 1:2. After defeating FaZe in the second semi-final, TSM returned for the rematch.

Empire finished second in both the European League and the Six Major in August. Despite the strong performance at the SI, the Russians wobbled in the final again this time and were again only able to secure the runner-up title.

Criticism to the next Rainbow Six season

For the future SI tournaments, developer Ubisoft has announced that it will remove the location binding for Montreal. The venue is expected to change annually from the next World Cup in February 2023.

Details of upcoming major tournaments have also been announced. The world's best teams are scheduled to travel to North America in May, the United Arab Emirates in August and Asia in November.

This announcement was met with criticism: "Who thought the UAE was a good idea when we have such a diverse team of moderators?", tweeted the captain of the German team Rogue, Leon "LeonGids" Giddens.

Commenter Emi "CaptainFluke" Donaldson then posted a picture with the caption "I'm in danger". CaptainFluke has been repeatedly subjected to trans-hostile insults in chat during past tournaments. Queer analyst Jessica "Jess" Bolden shared a surprise via Twitter: "Ubisoft may not support me in renewing my visa in May.»
