At the first European tournament of the Overwatch Contenders, the Canadian team Munich eSports won its first league title. In the semifinals, the team was affected by a controversy, which subsequently led to a strike of several teams.

In the semi-final against 01_esports, which was scheduled as a first-to-four series, Munich eSports led safely with 3:0. But the team from Saudi Arabia got into the swing and was on the verge of equalizing the game with a score of 3:2. At this point, Blizzard canceled the game on the grounds that it should have been a first-to-three series, and turned the final score back to 3-0.

Contender teams outraged by Blizzard error

"It's humanly impossible to screw it up like this," 01s Timber "kraandop" Rensen tweeted. "It was only confirmed to us the day before the game that it would be a first-to-four series". As a result of the defeat, his team slipped into the losing round, where it was supposed to meet Ex Oblivione.

But both teams have decided to strike. After a few minutes without action, the game was paused and finally aborted. In the official message, Ex Oblivione spoke of "several errors on the part of Blizzard" that "compromised the integrity of this tournament" and called for a solution.

Later, the organization of the tournament admitted mistakes and misunderstandings in communication. "In line with our recent announcement to the teams, the games will continue as a first-to-four series," the official statement on Twitter said.

The match between Munich eSports and 01_esports continued the next day at the score of 3:2. The Canadian team was able to win the round and won the game with a score of 4:2. In the final, the two teams met again. Here, too, the Munich team prevailed (4:3).
