The Swiss team BDS has secured the first international offline title in Rocket League for around two years. In the final of the RLCS Herbstmajors, the team prevailed against NRG after two best-of-seven series with a score of 4: 1 and 4:3.
"NRG is certainly the best team to play against. We are therefore very happy with how everything went, " said BDS player Alex "Extra" Paoli after the final. "It has been a long journey for us to get here, but we wanted to prove to everyone that we are good not only online, but also offline.»
After two years, Rocket League fans also get a new and clear answer to which region the better teams come from: Especially in the first final series, BDS world champion NRG was clearly superior. In the second series, the US team got in shape again and was able to fend off two match points, but it was not enough for a victory over BDS.
Group winners weaken at Rocket-Leage major
Before the tournament, the final would certainly have been a realistic pairing for many. In the group stage, however, Dignitas and Faze, two other teams from Europe and North America, initially emerged as favorites.
But Faze lost significantly in the semifinals with a score of 1:4 against NRG and for the European team Dignitas the tournament was already over after the quarterfinals. After three 3:0 victories in the Swiss stage, Dignitas had to admit defeat with 3:4 SMPR Esports.
