Start of the season in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship

The Virtual Bundesliga has opened the new FIFA season. At the season opener of the Club Championship, the clubs met online for the first two matchdays - initially only the moderation is live in the VBL studio.

Two derbies and a weakening tournament favorite

The North-West division made the start, including two derbies. Hansa Rostock beat Holstein Kiel in the Baltic Derby (2:1; 1:5; 2:1). In the district derby, FC Schalke 04 surprisingly won against VfL Bochum (2:0; 1:0; 0;1) - the Bochumers are among the title favorites this season with a new team.

Even in the highlight game of the day, the VfL weakened and got only a draw against Hamburger SV (4:1; 1:2; 1:1). With a last-minute goal, Koray "KKoray" Kücükgünar and Benedikt "BENECR7X" Bauer equalized against HSV in a team of two.

An old rabbit slows down last year's winner

The 1. FC Köln met SV Werder Bremen in the first match. With Denis "Denis" Müller, last year's winner of the Club Championship, the Cologne team has secured title potential in the newly founded VBL team.

But right in the first game of the season, an old hand in FIFA e-sports slowed down the young champion: Michael "MegaBit" Bittner won against Denis with a score of 2: 0. Bremen also prevailed in the overall standings (2:0; 3:0; 1:4).

In the South-East division, the reigning club champion 1. FC Heidenheim will start the season against 1. FC Nürnberg. In addition, the Canadian individual champion Umut "Umut" Gültekin plays there for RB Leipzig.
