Until the last group matchday, Evil Geniuses (EG) had had to worry about getting into the knockout round of the RLCS winter Major. In the end, a victory is enough for the US organization, which is taking part in an RLCS major for the first time with its German Rocket League team, to advance.
Evil Geniuses also had to play his first two group matches against two of the tournament favorites. Against G2 Esports, the Germans lost 1:3 after games, against defending champion BDS a little more narrowly with 2:3. In the decisive third game against Team Secret, EG showed its own quality clearly. With a 3:1, they secured group third place and thus a place in the first round of the lower bracket.
After the European teams performed particularly well at the autumn Major in Sweden, there seems to be a home advantage for Los Angeles as well. With G2 Esports, Version1 and Spacestaion Gaming, US teams are first in three out of four groups.
However, the venue has a special disadvantage for the Saudi team Sandrock Gaming. Sandrock could not participate in the tournament at short notice due to visa problems.
