A big surprise in the League of Legends scene: the French champion Karmine Corp has signed Martin "Rekkles" Larsson from G2 Esports. After a title-less year in the LEC, the Botlaner will move one division down to the French regional league LFL.
At G2, Rekkles would actually have been under contract until the end of 2023. But the cooperation did not bear the expected fruits: the team did not win a title in the season and missed the qualification for the World Championship for the first time since 2018. Too little for team founder Carlos "ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago, who announced in October that he was no longer planning with Rekkles.
Substitutions for Rekkles probably too high
However, the transfer fee set at $ 1.5 million for Rekkles, "below market value" according to Ocelote, probably did not want to raise a first-class team. The superstar quickly ran out of options, as many vacant places in the transfer carousel, according to media reports, go to new talents who are cheaper for the teams.
G2s founder ocelote also claimed that in the past he had prevented Luka "Perkz" Perković from switching to rival Fnatic within the LEC with contracts. However, this is not the case with Rekkles.
In the end, only Kcorp fulfilled the requirements, which means that Rekkles will compete in a regional league for the first time since 2013, when he was not yet eligible to play for the European league due to his age. There he also has no chance to qualify for the World Cup.
Kcorp is a team with a large fan base
Kcorp is extremely popular there: the team of a French streamer won the European tournament of the regional European Masters two times in a row. Kcorp could also be a candidate for a possible expansion of the LEC to more than ten teams.
