Overwatch League pro Matthew "super" DeLisi has expressed frustration with the current state of development of the Activision Blizzard shooter game.

"I haven't had so much fun playing Overwatch in a long time," the San Francisco Shock player said in a Twitch stream about a currently playing experimental update of the game. "It's so easy to fill the game with life. Why did you give it up?»

Overwatch without major updates

With the announcement of the successor Overwatch 2 in 2019, hardly any new content has been added to Overwatch. After the departure of several executives, including Overwatch CEO Jeff Kaplan in April, as well as new reports about sexist and exploitative practices at Activision Blizzard, the release of the successor was also postponed to 2023.

The new season of the Overwatch League should still be able to start in April next year with an earlier version of the game, according to the organizers. One of the biggest changes is that only five instead of six players should compete in the teams.

To prepare for the new game, the European team Paris Eternal modified Overwatch with all the expected changes of the successor. This version was also used to audition new team members.
