The Overwatch League team London Spitfire did not take the chance for early tournament qualification. The team lost to direct rivals Atlanta Reign and Washington Justice over the weekend.

"It hurts a lot to lose this series," London's Hadi "Hadi" Bleinagel wrote on Twitter after the 2-3 loss to Washington. Both teams ran head-to-head and had to play all five cards in the series to find the winner in extra time. The difference was ultimately made by Washington veteran Jang "Decay" Gui-un, who unerringly knocked out the London players and was voted the best player for his performance.

Earlier, London had already lost significantly against Atlanta with a score of 1:3. In order to still have a chance to participate in the tournament, Hadi and his team must win on the next matchday against Toronto Defiant, which showed very good form in the last matches.

In addition to Dallas Fuel and San Fransicso Shock, Toronto and Washington have also secured their tournament places ahead of schedule. The second European team, Paris Eternal, failed to qualify after a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Gladitors.
