Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle and his team Excel Esports are currently at the top of the European League of Legends League LEC. After a narrow entry into the playoffs in the spring, the team is one of the top favorites this season.
In an interview with the German press Agency, Mikyx talks about the current form of Excel, his own expectations and the level of the other teams in the LEC.
Excel in the LEC: "Have become better"
Question: Excel is currently in a very good position in the LEC. What's been making you so good as a team lately?
Answer: To be honest, this is largely due to the fact that we have become much better in the Korean training camp. Each of us individually, but we also play better as a team. I also believe that many of our victories are due to a better selection of heroes. That was really an important factor.
Question: With what expectations did you go into the season and have these been fulfilled so far?
Answer: We want to go to the World Championship. So far, we are on the best way to achieve this. I think we're doing pretty well. But I also feel like every team we've played against has been below my expectations. I think we got some free tickets. But we are certainly not bad either.
Question: What do you think about the current competition in the league?
Answer: Overall, the level of the league has increased in my opinion, because the teams continue to improve the more they play. Let's see what this looks like in an international comparison.
Other LEC teams can catch up
Question: Do you think other teams will catch up to you in the next few weeks?
Answer: We are not exceptionally good, we are just decent. I think the other teams just have to stop being bad. Rogue, for example, is on a good path. In the first week they were pretty bad, but now they are quite good. Vitality also looks better. So the other teams can definitely catch up.
