Rogue is the last Western team to be eliminated from the League of Legends World Championship. In the quarterfinals against JD Gaming, the LEC champion rarely became dangerous to the opponent and lost the series with a score of 0:3.
"We definitely could have beaten them if we had only been a little better. We were missing something fundamental today," Rogue midlaner Emil "Larssen" Larsson said in an interview after the game. "It's sad that our year ends here. Because if you make it this far, you don't want it to stop.»
Rogue vs. Chinese master is just an outsider
In the playoffs, Rogue was the only representative from Europe, with the team benefiting from a perfect first week of play without defeat in the group stage. However, against the Chinese champion JD, who had confidently led his own group, Rogue were only given low chances in the knockout phase.
The fears should turn out to be correct, because in the series a clear class difference was revealed. In the first two matches, JD showed himself merciless from the very beginning, winning in under 30 minutes each. Only in the third game Rogue was able to keep up at first, but in the end did not come close to a comeback.
Weak Worlds a setback for Europe
For the LEC, the LoL World Cup ends as a disappointment. After the early exit of MAD Lions in the play-ins, Fnatic and G2 Esports also fell short of expectations in the group stage. For Rogue, however, the successful entry into the quarterfinals last year before the entering naming partnership with Koi should still be considered a success.
