Team Liquid has eliminated the record winner of the PGL "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" major in Antwerp from the tournament with Astralis. The Americans secured themselves with a terse but convincing 2:0 (16:14; 16:13) one of the last places in the next round of the tournament.
"We've had a crazy schedule since the beginning of the year and we haven't been able to train much before the major," Liquid player Richard "shox" Papillon said in an interview after the game. "We have to play with what we have, and a 2-0 win is a good sign. We're getting better.»
Although Astralis had lost a trio of Team Vitality since the Major victories, the Danes are the biggest name to have dropped out of the tournament so far. Even a brilliant performance by Benjamin "blameF" Bremer, who achieved a total of 40 eliminations on the first card, could not change anything. Liquid, on the other hand, is the last organization from North America to be represented in the tournament.
The Kosovan team Bad News Eagles, whose qualification had already been a big surprise without the support of an organization, was able to provide MIBR with 2:1 (13:16; 16:8; 16:10) turn off. Their Swiss player Rigon "rigoN" Gashi is only the second player of his country to be in the legend phase of a major.
The last place went to Team Imperial around Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, whose core at SK Gaming was once one of the best teams in the world. The team won against forZe and will face BIG, the only Canadian team in the tournament, in the Legend phase.
