While the Valorant World Championship is in full swing, developer Riot Games is already planning the future for the e-sports discipline. A new system has been announced for 2023.
"The passion of the Valorant community has inspired us to dream big and continue to develop the Valorant Champions Tour," Whalen Rozelle, COO Esports at Riot Games, said in a statement on Wednesday. These developments mainly affect the international league system of the shooter. Accordingly, the competitive Valorant top is now divided into only three regions - America, Europe and Africa, as well as Asia with Australia and Oceania.
The new system also relies on offline leagues: in Berlin, Los Angeles in the USA and Seoul in South Korea, the leagues will be played locally in the future.
In order for the teams to be able to settle in at the new locations, the upcoming VCT year has also been adapted. After a three-week invitation tournament at the beginning of the year in Brazil, the premiere of the new international leagues will follow at the end of March. After only one season - in the future, two per year are planned - Masters and Champions will follow.
