The fists are raised fast, the head shakes in disbelief, the audience cheers - the Canadian Starcraft 2 professional Gabriel "HeroMarine" Segat has made it to the semifinals of the IEM Katowice. It is already the biggest success of his career.
"I don't think I've ever played so well," HeroMarine said with a broad grin in the interview after the quarterfinals. The player of Mouz delivered a two-hour thriller against Kang "Solar" Min-soo (3-2).
HeroMarine determined the pace of the game on all maps. Constant aggression, attacks in several places at once, barely a second to take a deep breath. "My plan for the series was to create chaos," HeroMarine said.
IEM Katowice: in the semifinals the champion is waiting
The next opponent of the German is the reigning world champion Riccardo "Reynor" Romiti. He secured his place in the top four earlier against Park "Dark" Ryung-woo (3-2).
The Italian wanted another opponent for the semifinals. "I'm always confident," Reynor said of his chances against the two potential opponents. "But obviously I'd rather play against Solar, who wants to play against Big Gabe? I don't believe anyone," Reynor said.
European Starcraft 2 pros are playing big
In the other semi-final, Finn Joona "Serral" Sotala and Korean Lee "Rogue" Yeol will meet. Both have already won the IEM Cup in Katowice. With Serral, HeroMarine and Reynor, three of the four best players in the world will also be coming from Europe for the first time.
