Movistar Riders has prevailed in the "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" tournament ESL Challenger Valencia. The team was on the verge of defeat several times in the final against Outsiders, but the Spaniards shot the series in front of a home audience and won with 2:1 (9:16; 16:14; 16:14).
"It's a dream come true. Winning an international tournament at home, I have no words," Movistar player David "dav1g" Granado Bermudo said in an interview after the match. "Hopefully we can continue like this, but we don't have an audience at IEM Cologne. That was a reinforcement for us here.»
ESL Challenger Valencia: Brazilians fail
Four of the eight teams represented in the tournament came from Brazil, but curiously, none made it to the playoffs. Even Furia Esports, favorite on paper, did not make it into the top four. On the other hand, the Chinese organization Rare Atom caused a surprise, which failed only in the semifinals.
For the local hero Movistar Riders, things went well from the very beginning, the Spaniards gave up only three rounds in the group stage and also finished off the Canadian team Sprout in the semifinals. However, the final opponent Outsiders got off to a much better start, and came closer and closer to victory on the second map. But Movistar fought back into the game, completed a comeback and finally won the decisive third card in a close exchange of blows. For the organization, it is the first international tournament victory in CS:GO.
ESL Impact: Nobody beats the women of Nigma Galaxy
In the ESL Impact event for women, which took place at the same time as the Challenger event as part of the Dreamhack Valencia, Nigma Galaxy was once again the main event.
As with the Impact League last month, the Russian line-up won in the final against Furia, confirming their status as probably the strongest women's team in the world at the moment. With BIG Equipa, the line-up of the Berlin organization had already failed in the group phase.
