In the fight for the last remaining playoff places of the European League of Legends League LEC, Fnatic and Excel prevailed over Team Vitality.
With strong audience support at the LEC studio in Berlin, Fnatic secured their advance to the playoffs with a win against Misfits Gaming. Fans had hung up several orange and black flags and loudly shouted the name of the British organization.
LEC: Two tie-breaker games necessary
Previously, Excel could at least get the chances of the playoffs with a win against Astralis. After Rogue won against Team Vitality in the fourth game, Vitality and Excel were on an equal footing with 9:9 and had to go into a tie-breaker game.
This started in a balanced way, but after about 20 minutes Excel slowly managed to gain the upper hand. The British team played the advantage against the team Vitality around midlane star Luka "Perkz" Perković, which was called a "Superteam" at the beginning of the year, confidently to victory.
Mikyx: "Just want to go to bed"
"I'm very tired. I just want to go to bed now," said Excels support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle in an interview after the first tie-breaker. "But I'm glad we won." He expected his team to have good chances for the playoffs.
Misfits and Fnatic also had to do it again: in the tie-breaker for fourth place and thus the entry into the upper Bracket of the playoffs, Misfits prevailed after a close back-and-forth and superior team battles. This means that G2 Esports, MAD Lions, Rogue and Misfits will start in the upper half of the postseason tournament, while Fnatic and Excel will have to fight their way through the lower bracket.
