Fnatic Academy has won the fifth season of the "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" league WePlay Academy. The team beat Team Spirit Academy in the final of the tournament intended for junior teams 2:1 (16:14; 16:1).
To a surprise, it came even before the playoffs, when the four-time and so far only Academy League champion Mouz NXT was already eliminated after a disappointing group stage. So it was clear early on that another participant would win the title for the first time.
CS:GO-Young talent: Semi-final for BIG vs Spirit
BIG Academy played strongly and secured the group victory. However, as one of the favorites to the playoffs, after a loss to Fnatic Rising, it continued in the lower half of the tournament, where the run ended in the semifinals against Spirit Academy.
In the final between Spirit and Fnatic Rising, both teams initially fought a close battle and could not secure a big advantage for each other. Even a small advantage for Spirit at the end of the card made no difference, since Fnatic had the stronger nerves and Spirit took his own choice of cards.
On the second map, on the other hand, it became clear, Fnatic Rising got off to a very good start and quickly ran away with the lead. Spirit won only a single round in the first half, and didn't even come close to a comeback after that. The completely overhauled line-up of Fnatic Rising can thus directly record its first success with the Academy League title.
