FC Barcelona is further expanding its involvement in e-sports and will start in the Spanish "Superliga" in League of Legends from next year. The club announced this via Twitter.
League of Legends is one of the largest e-sports disciplines worldwide. The World Cup attracts an audience of millions to the livestreams every year. Even the regional leagues, especially in Spain and France, sometimes reach enormous numbers. However, Barcelona can rule out a qualification for the World Cup directly, because the only way to get there in Europe is through the LEC franchise League.
In the Superliga, LVP for short, the LoL team of the football club will then compete, among other things, against the team of their own defensive player Gerard Piqué, who recently bought a team together with the streamer Ibai Llanos.
Barcelona already runs several e-sports teams. In the football simulation eFootball, the club competes against FC Bayern Munich, among others. In addition, there are Barcelona teams in Rocket League and Hearthstone. In the announcement, the club added that it would only compete in non-violent e-sports disciplines.
