In the European League of Legends league LEC, the first favorites emerge after two weeks. But between the usual candidates, a new team is in the top field: Excel Esports shares the top of the table with defending champion G2 Esports.
"We have to stay on the ground. Two to three weeks ago, they saw us in fifth or sixth place and didn't give us a chance at the World Cup," Excels coach Joey "Youngbuck" Steltenpool said in an interview after the game. "Just because we started strong doesn't mean we're going to stop strong.»
Excel dominates MAD Lions in record time
Already in the first week Excel had only lost to G2, in the second week two more victories followed. With Team Vitality and MAD Lions, the team beat two teams that are aiming for World Cup qualification. In the second duel it became particularly clear, because Excel dominated against last year's champion in just under 20 minutes.
G2 also remains in good shape, but stumbled on Friday. Of all people, the clear outsider Team BDS, who had previously remained winless, took the first game from the record champion. The following day, however, G2 was able to rehabilitate itself with a sovereign victory against Vitality.
Four teams around Fnatic behind the top group
Fnatic ranks just behind G2 and Excel, among others. The team did not go undefeated again with a loss to MAD on Friday. Surprisingly good, on the other hand, is the completely overhauled line-up of Astralis, which has not yet been able to defeat a top team, but is still in third place on equal points.
