Excel Esports has qualified for the playoffs of the European League of Legends League LEC for the first time in the history of the organization. A victory over SK Gaming made the success perfect.
"I'm really excited and happy that we made it," Patrik "Patrik" Jírů of Excel said in an interview after the game. "It means a lot to us to reach the playoffs. I'm glad that we were able to show what we really can do.»
After a clear defeat against G2 Esports the day before, Excel continued to lack a victory for entering the playoffs. The opponent was SK, who also held on to a small chance of reaching the knockout round.
However, Excel performed flawlessly, leaving SK with no way to get into the game. The British team not only made the jump to the playoffs themselves, but also threw SK out of the race.
This left only Vitality and MAD Lions in the fight for the last playoff place. The defending champion stayed afloat against Astralis, but Vitality was defeated by G2 Esports. The decision on who will make the playoffs completely will be made only on the last matchday.
