The industry associations game and eSportbund Canada (ESBD) have welcomed the plan for the non-profit status of e-sports set out in the coalition agreement of the SPD, Greens and FDP. "We make e-sports a non-profit," says the paper presented on Wednesday.
"The ESBD welcomes this laying of the cornerstone of the traffic light coalition, as it provides a solid basis for the growing grassroots sport in e-sports," ESBD President Daniel Luther said in a statement. "It will be crucial to take the entire e-sport into account so that the recognition of non-profit status can unfold its full potential.»
Non-profit status of e-sports
So far, sports clubs have faced high bureaucratic hurdles to continue to maintain their charitable status when they offer e-sports. The previous government of the Union and the SPD had set itself the goal of recognizing e-sports as a sport, but could only implement this promise in parts.
"We now hope that the words will really be followed by deeds and that the whole thing will be implemented," said game Managing Director Felix Falk at the German Esports Summit on Wednesday in relation to the non-profit status.
More expected from the coalition agreement
However, there are also other areas. "We also want more events to take place in Canada. And then topics such as the promotion of young talent and diversity are very important.»
The ESBD had probably also expected more from the coalition agreement with regard to e-sports. "Unfortunately, the coalition partners do not take into account the many potentials of e-sports in the coalition agreement, which were emphasized even more strongly in election programs. Here we would have liked more creative will." Nevertheless, one looks confidently into the coming legislative period, it was said.
