The upcoming season of the Overwatch League will begin in the beta version of Overwatch 2. From the end of April, there will be a multiplayer beta for a large group of players, said game director Arron Keller in a video statement on Youtube.
The fourth season of the Overwatch League is scheduled to begin on May 5. With the new game also come some changes. The biggest: instead of playing with six, the teams only have five players. In addition, there are new maps, the new game mode "Push", a new heroine and various changes to existing characters.
In order to get to the market faster with the player-versus-player mode (PvP), developer Blizzard is decoupling the beta from the player-versus-environment mode (PvE), previously announced as the biggest innovation. Singleplayer and co-op mode will be released later. At the same time, Keller announced that he would publish new content faster again.
Overwatch 2 Beta follows Alpha phase with Professional players
Starting this week, in addition to Blizzard employees, the league's professional players will also have access to an alpha build of the game, which will allow them to prepare for the season.
Overwatch 2 was first announced in November 2019. Since then, only one new hero has been released for the predecessor.
Activision-Blizzard also had to postpone the release of new games. The company has recently been under massive criticism for sexual harassment of employees, which is why it has also been sued. A large number of prominent heads, including from the Overwatch team, have left the company in recent years.
